Feature Status - Jan 2012

In September 2009 the XWiki.org project ran a survey asking users what features they'd like to see developed in the XWiki project.

2.5 years after, here's the result of what's been implemented and what's still outstanding. Since we're going to start defining the themes for the XWiki Enterprise 4.x cycle (which lasts 1 year), it's a good time to reflect on the results achieved so far compared to the community feedback from 2009.

The idea is to start a new survey real soon to gather feedback again about what you'd like to see in the XWiki Enterprise 4.x cycle.

So without further ado here are the results... ...

XWiki Enterprise 3.1 Milestone 2 Available

A few highlights of the new version:

  • XWiki now requires Java 6!
  • Upgraded versions of libraries which also no longer support java 1.5.
  • Code removal and re-factoring to strengthen the platform foundation.

You can review the changes made and bugs fixed since 3.0 by going to:

XWiki Enterprise/Manager 3.0 Release Statistics

XWiki Enterprise & XWiki Enterprise 3.0 are being released and I wanted to share some stats with the Community.

XWiki Developers have fixed 510 issues during the XE/XEM 3.0 timeframe (i.e. between beginning of January 2011 and end of March 2011, that's 3 months - that's 6 issues per day including week ends, not bad!).

In order to provide a good visibility of the work done, who's worked on what, and more, we've created a JIRA Dashboard for XE/XEM 3.0.

From now on we'll try to provide such a dashboard for each major XE/XEM release. Let us know if it's useful to you and if you like it. Improvement suggestions are most welcome too. ...

BugFixingDay February 2011

Yesterday we've had a #bugfixingday and we've achieved significant results. One of the goals was to make a dent in the Created Bugs vs Closed Bugs ratio.

We wanted to thank all who have participated (Committers and Contributors alike). Here are stats for Committers work:

Name# of Triaged Issues# of Real Bugs Fixed
Sergiu Dumitriu914
Vincent Massol43
Marius Florea22
Ecaterina Moraru22
Thomas Mortagne01
Caleb James Deslisle10
TOTAL1822

Thanks to the following contributors who helped:

  • Andreas Jonsson
  • Johannes Stoldt

Note that these stats may not reflect 100% of the reality since they rely on people tagging the JIRA issues with the bugfixingday keyword.

Again many thanks to all that have participated!

Let's hope the next bugfixingday will attract more from our 18 active committers.

XWiki In 2010

Vincent has published stats about XWiki Development in 2010.

It shows 2010 has been a good year with more releases than ever, even though the committer's activity has been slightly reduced in 2010 compared to 2009.

XWiki Logo Challenge

Hi XWikiers!

It's time to inject new blood in XWiki.org. While discussing about improving its look & feel we thought it would be a good time to create a new logo for XWiki.org as it's an important part of a website design. We borrowed the current logo from XWiki.com some time ago and, in order to keep the distinction between the company and the Open-Source project clear, we think XWiki.org websites and projects need their own logo.

As you may know, we love proposals, that's why we'd like to make the logo design an open challenge, anyone interested can join and a vote amongst the community will determine the winner. Even if the main purpose of the challenge is to have fun, the person whose design gets selected will receive XWiki goodies, including his logo printed on a t-shirt obviously :) The designer of the selected logo will enter the Hall Of Fame, and last but not least reward : the design will be spread wide (XWiki Enterprise is more than 10000 downloads/month and XWiki.org web site more than 50000 visits a month).

The challenge takes place on dev.xwiki.org

Features Survey Results

I've compiled a new version of the Feature Survey's results. After removing duplicates there were exactly 100 answers left :)

*Thanks to all the members of the community who took part to the survey!* It will help us gain more insights into which features should be included in the upcoming versions of the XWiki Platform & XWiki Enterprise.

We'll use the survey results during the discussion about the roadmap of XWiki Enterprise 2.1 which will start next week. ...
