Pinned Pages

Explanation

By default, Pages are sorted alphabetically by their translated titles. If this default order doesn't meet your needs, you can manually reorder Pages using the Pinned Pages feature. Pinned Pages will affect the display of The Page Tree Macro, the Navigation Panel, the Breadcrumb, and other Page Trees in XWiki. By default, these features will show pinned Pages, unless custom configurations are applied to remove the pinned Pages filter.

How it works:

  • Pinned Pages are displayed first in the child Pages list, in the manual order you define.
  • The remaining child Pages are displayed after, sorted automatically (e.g., by title).
  • This creates a mix of manual and automatic ordering: pinned Pages are prioritized, while other Pages follow the default sorting.
  • The pinned child Pages list updates automatically when Pages are moved or renamed, or deleted. If a Page is moved to another parent (or to the top level), its pinned state is not preserved in the new location.
  • The list of pinned child Pages for a given parent is stored in the parent Page's preferences.
  • The list of pinned top-level Pages is stored in the whole wiki's preferences.
