Explanation

A group gathers the users of a wiki so that a right can be granted to all of them at once, and the Administration Application is where an administrator manages them. Like a user account, a group is an ordinary Page in the XWiki space, and the list of who belongs to it lives on that Page, as one XWiki.XWikiGroups object per member.

A member is either a user or another group, called a subgroup. A user joins the groups named as initial groups as soon as their account is created, and sees the groups they belong to from their own profile.

The groups of the wiki are listed under "Users & Rights" > "Groups" in the wiki administration:

From that screen an administrator creates a group, changes who belongs to it and deletes it.

Granting the Edit right on a group's Page lets someone change its members without being an administrator of the wiki.

FAQ

How do I find a group in a long list?

Type in the filter under the "Group Name" column header, which matches a group's title as well as the name of its Page.

Can I sort the list, or filter it by the "Members" column?

No. Neither column can be sorted, and the "Members" column cannot be filtered either.

How many groups does the list show at once?

Fifteen, and the "Results per page" dropdown above and below the list offers 25, 50 or 100 instead.
