Explanation
The Active Installs 2 API extension is the module behind Active Installs: it sends an XWiki instance's ping, and it provides the script API for the pings xwiki.org has collected. Active Installs covers why the project asks for that data.
Why Active Installs 2 Is a Separate Extension
Active Installs 2 is a new extension rather than a new version of Active Installs, because the two keep the collected pings in different major versions of Elasticsearch: 8.x for this one, 1.x for the first. Moving the data already collected from 1.x to 8.x was impractical, so xwiki.org needed both extensions installed side by side, the older one still serving its own data.
