Steps

Grant or deny a right to a user or a group on a whole wiki, main wiki or subwiki alike, knowing that a rule set on a page overrides it as described in Rights Resolution.

1. Administer your wiki.
2. Select "Users & Rights", and then "Rights".

   

3. Select the "Groups" or the "Users" tab, depending on whom the right is for, then click the check box where the group or user meets the right: once to allow it, twice to deny it, and a third time to clear it and fall back to the default value.

   

4. Check that the right shows as allowed or denied. The change is saved as soon as you click, so there is no button to confirm it.

Which groups and users can I select on a subwiki?

Both the local ones, defined on that subwiki, and the global ones, defined on the main wiki, but the tabs list the local ones by default: switch the scope to "Global" or "Both" to reach the global accounts.

Where do I set who is allowed to create subwikis?

In the "Creation Right" section of the "Wikis" category, and only in the administration of the main wiki.

How do I stop unregistered visitors from reading the wiki?

Use the two dedicated check boxes of the same "Rights" section rather than individual rules: see Restrict the Wiki to Registered Users.
