Steps

The "Page Layout" tab decides which side columns exist and how wide they are, for the whole wiki or for one page as Scope of a Panel Configuration describes.

  1. Open the Panel Wizard.
  2. Select one of the four layouts under "Panel Columns": "No side column", "Left column", "Right column" or "Both columns".

FAQ

Why does the page change before I click "Save"?

The Wizard previews each choice live. Nothing is stored until you click "Save", and "Reset" discards the preview.

A reader tells me the column is missing. Did the setting not save?

The layout you set is the default. A reader can hide a visible column for themselves, and that choice lives in their browser only.

Which Panels go into the columns I just enabled?

Those you put there in the "Panel List" tab, described in Arrange the Panels in a Column.
