Migrate Pages from Markdown 1.0 and 1.1

Steps

The Markdown 1.0 and 1.1 syntaxes no longer work with supported XWiki versions and have been removed: their pages display a "Failed to find a parser" error instead of their content. Convert these pages to Markdown 1.2, once it is installed and enabled.

  1. List the pages to migrate: create a page with the following content and view it. It lists the pages of the current wiki written in Markdown 1.0 or 1.1.
    {{velocity}}
    #foreach ($ref in $services.query.xwql("where doc.syntaxId in ('markdown/1.0', 'markdown/1.1')").execute())
    * [[$ref]]
    #end
    {{/velocity}}
  2. Open a page of the list and click "Edit". The page opens in the wiki editor.
  3. Select "CommonMark Markdown 1.2" in the "Page syntax" field and click "OK" in the "Syntax Conversion" dialog. The content is not converted automatically.

  4. Rewrite the constructs that Markdown 1.2 writes differently, for example:
    ConstructMarkdown 1.0 and 1.1Markdown 1.2
    Link to a wiki page[installation guide](Sandbox.WebHome)[[installation guide|Sandbox.WebHome]]
    Inline macro#[info](Back up the wiki first.){{info}}Back up the wiki first.{{/info}}
    Macro without content#[toc]{{toc/}}
    FootnoteText[^1].No equivalent: move the note into the text

    The rest of the content is written the same way, see the Markdown 1.2 Syntax.

  5. Click "Save & View". The page displays its content again.

FAQ

What happens if I don't rewrite the old constructs?

The page displays them wrongly: a link written [label](Sandbox.WebHome) points to a URL named after the page instead of the page, and #[toc] is displayed as plain text.
