Link to an Attached File or Image

Steps

The Wiki editor addresses an attachment by its file name, behind a scheme that says whether to link it or to display it:

  1. Edit the Page the link belongs in, with the Wiki editor.
  2. Write the link, giving the name of the file as its target, prefixed by the attachment scheme:
    [[the quarterly report>>attach:quarterly-report.pdf]]

To display an image instead of linking it, write the image scheme followed by the file name:

    image:revenue-chart.png

    link-attachment-editor.png

  3. Click "Save & View". The link and the image are rendered in the content of the Page.

FAQ

How do I point at an attachment of another Page?

Give the reference of the Page holding the file, then the file name, separated by an "at" sign:

[[the quarterly report>>attach:Sandbox.Team [email protected]]]

Displaying an attached image works the same way:

image:Sandbox.Team [email protected]

Can I link an attachment without writing wiki syntax?

Yes. The default WYSIWYG editor has a dialog for each case: its link dialog takes an attachment as the target of a link, suggesting the matching ones as you type or letting you pick from the Page tree, and its image dialog picks an attached image from a gallery. Both can upload the file first, in which case it is attached to the Page you are editing.

How do I link a file that is not in the wiki?

Use its address as the target of the link, which makes it an external link. An image hosted elsewhere is displayed the same way, by giving its address after the image scheme.
