Steps

Close a wiki to unregistered visitors in one setting, instead of denying "View" to the guest user page by page as Rights Resolution would otherwise require.

1. Administer your wiki.
2. Select "Users & Rights", and then "Rights".
3. Select the "Prevent unregistered users from viewing pages, regardless of the page rights" check box, and the matching one for editing pages.

   

4. Open the wiki in a private browser window, and check that an unregistered visitor is asked to log in instead of reading the page.

   

FAQ

Does this override the rights set on individual pages?

Yes, as the label says: an unregistered visitor is refused even on a page where "View" is explicitly allowed for the guest user.

Which parts of the wiki do unregistered visitors still load?

The login screen falls back to the default Color Theme and misses the skin extensions, because those live on pages the visitor may not read. Give the guest user "View" right on the Color Theme page to keep it.

Can I keep a few pages public on an otherwise private wiki?

Not with these check boxes, which admit no exception, and not easily with ordinary rights either: see XWIKI-14544.
