Steps

Let unregistered visitors comment on the wiki, or edit it, and require a CAPTCHA of them so that the open comment form does not become a target for spam. Rights given to unregistered users are resolved like every other rule, as Rights Resolution describes.

1. Administer your wiki.
2. Select "Users & Rights", and then "Rights".
3. Select the "Users" tab, and allow "Comment" for "Unregistered Users", together with "Edit" if visitors may change pages, the way Set the Rights of a Wiki describes.

   

4. Select the "Require unregistered users to solve a CAPTCHA when posting a comment on a page" check box, below the grid.

   

5. Open the wiki in a private browser window, and check that commenting a page asks for the CAPTCHA.

   

FAQ

Do unregistered visitors need "View" right as well?

"View" is allowed by default, so it only has to be granted where it was denied, and it cannot be granted at all while the check boxes of Restrict the Wiki to Registered Users are selected.

Under what name does the comment of a visitor appear?

Under the name they type in the comment form, which is prefilled with "Anonymous". No account is created.

Can I require a CAPTCHA at registration too?

Yes, with the "Require CAPTCHA to register" setting described in Customize the Registration Page.
