The Silk Icon Theme (Deprecated)
Explanation
Deprecated XWiki 18.0.0. Use Font Awesome instead.
Silk is the Icon Theme that maps the XWiki Icon Set to the FamFamFam Silk icons, a library of more than a thousand 16-pixel pictures published in 2005. Every icon of the interface came from it before an Icon Theme could be chosen at all, which is why a wiki that has never selected it still displays its pictures in places.

Silk reaches further than the wikis that select it, because the icon set built into the distribution draws the same pictures: it is what an icon with no mapping in the selected theme ends up being drawn by, and what the wiki syntax image:icon:<name> always draws, whichever theme the wiki has selected.
Being a theme of type image, Silk serves one picture file per icon and its colors are fixed, where the glyphs of a font theme are drawn by the browser in the color the skin gives them.

FAQ
Where do the Silk pictures come from?
They ship inside the distribution and are served from /xwiki/resources/icons/silk/, so a wiki with no access to the internet displays them just as well.
