Clustering

Explanation

XWiki can run as several instances serving one wiki, kept in agreement by the Remote Observation Module, which sends each node's events to the others over the network. The pages below cover what such a cluster is made of, how to set one up, and what it does not do for you.

  • Cluster Architecture explains what the nodes exchange, and why they have to exchange anything at all.
  • Shared Resources lists what every node must read from the same place, and the one thing they must not share.
  • Enable Event Distribution turns remote observation on and gets a channel formed.
  • Run Two Nodes Locally walks through a complete two-node setup on a single machine, to try the whole thing out.
  • Verify a Cluster proves the nodes found each other and really replicate.
  • Add a Load Balancer puts Apache in front of them, with the sticky sessions a cluster requires.
  • Limitations covers what clustering leaves to you, scheduled jobs above all.
