I am interested in using xwiki to support my PhD research. I am considering building an Application for xwiki that allows me to store my references (with the papers attached) and use the references as inputs (in bibTeX format) when writing papers.

For the reference tracking I would like to be able to use a mindmap to view the relationships between papers that I have entered and read into the wiki.

For actually writing papers I would like a rich text editor (similar to the WYSIWYG editor) that allows me to enter LaTeX commands. The page will be rendered using the LaTex -> XHTML converter, with optional buttons to generate DVI, PS and PDF's straight from the LaTeX source. I would like to be able to use the bibTeX references already in my wiki as cite{} input directly into the LaTeX source.

Basically I am looking for a collaborative academic research tool, I recently saw a suggestion for this sort of thing but nobody has taken it up, so I will give it a go *crosses fingers* :-).

I have had experience using Hibernate, Struts and developing enterprise applications, however this looks like it may present me with a challenge.
