Release Notes for XWiki 11.2

Last modified by Marius Dumitru Florea on 2019/05/15

This is the release notes for XWiki Commons, XWiki Rendering and XWiki Platform. They share the same release notes as they are released together and have the same version.

This release brings a warning to the users when they are editing a page and other users are saving the same content. The Object editor has a new way of presenting XClasses meant to increase the user experience, while the top level application pages are not displayed anymore in the Navigation Panel. In addition the performance of the Notifications feature has been improved.

Some important bugs have been found since XWiki 11.2 has been released:

TypeKeySummaryStatusCreated Date
BugXWIKI-16299Conflict window prevent creating a new translationClosed02-Apr-2019
BugXWIKI-16300Marking a notification as read is not always taken into account right awayClosed02-Apr-2019
BugXWIKI-16400Global Users don't appear in the Auto-sugest of groups in subwikisClosed10-May-2019

If one or several of these bugs impact you, then you should wait for the next version of XWiki (11.3) that will be released soon!

New and Noteworthy (since XWiki 11.1)

For Users

Exclude top level application pages from the Navigation Panel

The top level application pages are now excluded by default from the Navigation Panel. This allows the Navigation Panel to focus more on your own content pages.

Improved view of XClasses in Object editor

It is easier now to find the XWiki Class of interest by using the new suggest box that replaces the old select element. The old way of searching is still available so the user still can explore the full list of available classes.

Warning conflict when editing a page

The edition of document is now protected against edition conflicts. It means that a user might now obtain a warning conflict window, in case another user saved the document in the meantime. This window prevents from erasing the changes made by the first user having saved.

Miscellaneous

  • Notifications Peformances: The performance of the Notifications feature has been improved by implementing some in-memory caching of events for the users and more importantly its impact on the rest of the XWiki instance has been drastically reduced by limiting the resource allocated to it. This is a stopgap solution while waiting for a future redesign of the Notifications feature for better scalability for large volumes.

  • Backlink support improvements: The following areas containing backlinks are now refactored when renaming a page:

    • Images and attachments in wiki content
    • Wiki content in TextArea XObjects when the content is marked as containing markup

Backward Compatibility and Migration Notes

General Notes

  • When upgrading make sure you compare and merge the following XWiki configuration files since some parameters may have been modified, removed or added:
    • xwiki.cfg
    • xwiki.properties
    • web.xml
    • hibernate.cfg.xml
  • Add xwiki.store.migration=1 in xwiki.cfg so that XWiki will attempt to automatically migrate your current database to any new schema. Make sure you backup your Database before doing anything.

Issues specific to XWiki 11.2

Event Stream Mapping

The Event Stream Store now declares its mapping automatically. You must thus not declare the event stream store mapping into the hibernate.cfg.xml anymore. This means removing the following line:

<mapping resource="eventstream.hbm.xml"/>

Language Settings

The default value of the option xwiki.language.forceSupported is now set to true.
That means that only the supported languages defined in the Administration (section Content > Internationalization) will be used to display the wiki to our users.
If you want to support the previous behaviour, you can edit the default value of the option in xwiki.cfg by setting it to 0:

#-# Force only one of the supported languages to be accepted. Default set to true.
xwiki.language.forceSupported=0

API Breakages

The following APIs were modified since XWiki 11.1:

  • The annotation has been added in box macro but is used in Code Macro. It's not an api breakage.
