Training about XWiki Development Process

On 7 Apr 2012 we had the pleasure to hold a training about XWiki's Development Process to about 30 students, most of them from "Gheorghe Asachi" Technical University of Iasi, Romania.

We (Marius Florea, Eduard Moraru, Ecaterina Moraru and Raluca Stavro) presented the development process from a commiter's point of view, covering aspects like:

  • release cycle,
  • release process,
  • roadmap,
  • source management,
  • build management,
  • continuous integration,
  • etc.

We had demos on our major development tools (Git, Jira, Eclipse + plugins, Maven, Jenkins ) that are needed to create, maintain, test and develop our Java based project XWiki Enterprise.

You can have a sneak peek at our slides:

In the future we hope to encourage much more students to be part of the Open Source universe and to do development in the open.

Deprecation Fixing Day #1

On the 26th of April 2012, we had our first Deprecation Fixing Day. Its goal was to have the maximum number of XWiki committers and contributors work together on a focused topic for the day. This time it was about fixing the maximum number of deprecation calls and moving deprecated APIs not used anymore to our Legacy modules.

We had 6 committers participating which was an ok turnout.

In addition one new Legacy module was created in the XWiki Rendering repository and one plugin (old technology) was moved out of the "oldcore".

The Sonar Dashboard says we had 1758 deprecated calls so we fixed about 4%. It's a start!

But even more important we moved 53 deprecated API to Legacy which means nobody coding on the XWiki project will be able to use those APIs by errors from now on.

Thanks to everyone who participated!

XWiki Enterprise and XWiki Enterprise Manager 3.5.1 Released

The XWiki development team is proud to announce the availability of XWiki Enterprise 3.5.1. This is the first bugfix release for the 3.5 series, and, since 3.5 is the final major release in the 3.x cycle, a bugfix release for the whole 3.x cycle. The main focus has been on quality assurance, improving the compatibility with various database systems, polishing the new sheet mechanism, the new extension manager, the skin, the WYSIWYG, and other parts of the XWiki platform.
